Speaker

Hello, hello, SojoJers. I'm your host, Dave Light, and welcome to Travel with a Purpose, a podcast designed to keep SoJarners and friends informed, entertained, and inspired. In today's episode, I'm talking about a path that turns ordinary travel into extraordinary purpose. I'm sharing some thoughts about why being a part of the national evangelism with sojourners is important and rewarding.

Speaker

Perhaps you've reached a time of your life where you begin to ask, what now? You've worked hard, you've raised a family, you've invested in others, and now there is time. Time to travel, time to explore, and time to serve. But what if that time could also become one of the most meaningful seasons of your life? What if your travels were not just about seeing new places, but about strengthening churches, encouraging believers, and sharing the hope we have in Christ.

Speaker

There's something powerful about realizing that our journey does not end when one period of life closes. In many ways, it opens wider, it becomes richer, it becomes more intentional. As followers of Christ, we are already called to serve. That calling does not retire, it does not slow down, it simply changes shape.

Speaker

Sojourning gives us a way to step into that calling with clarity, direction, and community. Sojourners is built on a simple but profound idea. We go where we are needed, and we serve where we are planted. We travel with a purpose, and that purpose is first to evangelize, and it is to serve. For those who may not be familiar with sojourners, we're a network of Christians who use their mobility to strengthen congregations and communities across our great nation.

Speaker

Many sojourners travel in RVs, although it's not a requirement. Some locate temporarily in an area, but we all share one thing in common, a heart of service. And the needs are real. Small congregations need encouragement. Churches between ministers need someone to step in. Communities need outreach, and individuals need connection. Sojourners step into those places and many more. Sometimes what we do looks like preaching on Sunday mornings or teaching a class or leading a Bible study. Sometimes it's helping organize outreach efforts. Sometimes it's simply being present, listening, encouraging, and walking alongside others. And sometimes it's painting, plumbing, building, repairing, and cleaning.

Speaker

Our service reminds us that church is not confined to a building. It is alive wherever God's people are willing to serve.

Speaker

Being a member of Sojourners is important because it transforms individual effort into shared mission. We all have a desire to serve. Many of us have the willingness. What others need is connection and direction, and that's exactly what sojourners provide. We become part of a community that understands the heart behind traveling with purpose. There are people who encourage us, pray with us, and walk alongside us even when we're miles apart. There are needs we would never discover on our own.

Speaker

Sojourners connect us to congregations and ministries that are praying for help. We don't have to guess where to serve. We're stepping into places that are truly needed. And we're not sent out alone. There is guidance, structure, and shared wisdom from others who have walked this road before us and are now walking with us.

Speaker

Sojourning keeps us grounded. Travel can easily become comfortable and convenient. But sojourning gently reminds us that our purpose travels with us. It's a commitment to live intentionally for God's purpose wherever we go. Oh, and by the way, it is rewarding. There's a kind of joy that only comes from serving others. When that service is woven into our everyday life and travel, it becomes even more meaningful. We begin to see God working in ways we may never have noticed before. We see faith thriving in small congregations. We witness resilience in fellow Christians that continue to serve with limited resources. We experience gratitude from people who simply needed someone to show up. And often the greatest reward is not what we give, but what gives back to us through the experience. We gain a renewed purpose. Every sojourn becomes meaningful. Every interaction has value. We gain deeper faith. We rely on God in new ways. We trust Him with our steps, our schedules, and our service. We build lasting relationships. We meet people who leave a lasting imprint on our lives.

Speaker

Fellow sojourners become lifelong friends, and congregations become extended families, and we gain perspective. We're reminded that God is working everywhere, not just in large places or well known congregations, but in quiet towns, small congregations, and silent but faithful ministries.

Speaker

Most of all, there is a fulfillment that comes from knowing that our journey matters in eternity. We long to hear from our Lord. Well done, good and faithful servant. There is also a real life impact. Imagine a congregation that has been praying for help. They have been faithful and continue to meet and serve. Yet they're stretched in their resources and faith. They're stretched, and they need encouragement. Then the sojourners arrive, ready to serve, ready to listen, ready to strengthen. And in that moment, prayer is answered.

Speaker

That is what happens again and again through sojourners. God uses willing people in the right place and at the right time. And it's not because we're extraordinary, but because we are available. That is the beauty of this work. It reminds us that God does not ask us to be everything. He asks us to be faithful and willing.

Speaker

Perhaps you're wondering what comes next in your life. Perhaps you have time, resources, and a desire to serve. And perhaps you have even felt that quiet nudge, that sense that God is not finished with you yet. This may be your opportunity. You do not have to have all the answers or great skills. You don't have to be a gifted speaker or a personal worker. You simply need a willing heart. A heart ready to go where God sends, a heart ready to serve where there is need, a heart ready to love the people placed in your path. There is a place for you in sojourning.

Being part of Sojourners is not just about the miles we travel, it's about the lives we touch along the way and the lives that touch us. It's about choosing to live with purpose. It's about saying, wherever I go, I will serve. And when we live that way, every journey becomes meaningful. Well, thank you for listening to this podcast. I invite you to subscribe and share it with others. I'm your host, Dave Leighton, and remember, we glorify God as together we travel with a purpose. Happy sojourning.
